HERE'S A WONDERFUL PIECE I CAME ACROSS....VERY TRUE...I LIKED IT SOO MUCH THT I DECIDED TO SHARE IT WITH U GUYS :)...HAPPY READING!
When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that guy has to say.
For it isn't your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Whose judgement upon you must pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass.
He's the feller to please, never mind all the rest,
For he's with you clear up to the end,
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the guy in the glass is your friend.
You may be like Jack Horner and "chisel" a plum,
And think you're a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.
You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the guy in the glass.
JUSS A AFTERTHOUGHT :)
Hav u ever cheated the one in the glass ?? be it for one day , one hour, or mebe juss for a moment?? When we fool someone to beleive we are someone else, whn we try to potray ourselves as someone who we are not, are we actually foolin the others or juss foolin ourselves in the process...n in the end is it really worth it?/...think about it!!
cheers

@ ss
yup, i agree ...its a beutiful write, this poem..the afterthought is mine though...heehee...tell me ss, did it sting a lil whn u read it the first time?? *juss curious* n heyy u dint really comment on the afterthought...or is it tht u chose not to think bout it...i mean it can really get u into some real deep thinkin...spent a great deal of time thinkin bout it the first time i read it...:)
@ the only genius around (it pains me to hear this overinflated ego statement ..heehee)
huh??...do u??...i dint really know tht...heehee
besides u were one person i did think of whn i read this...lol!! wanted to know ur opinion bout it..but i guess as usual u got away by sayin claimin its ur philosophy--juss put by someone else...sigh!...why dint i expect tht...lol!!
n yaa buddy..will speed up my replies next time *heehee* n how do u know im online 24/7..lol.dont tell me uve got ur spies watchin me...;p
btw, its great to hav u bak at "nostalgic moments" ..juss hope u dont go on a "comment deletin spree" again...sigh! *throws her hands up in the air*
Truly agree with your after thoughts...But U see, this world is full of competition, ego and jealousy...and so, people are mostly forced to "Show off" or rather "act as something which they are not"...
btw, the article is amazing...
this is so true..and so good!
As long as the person in the glass is wth u..all's well!
@ vicky
Hmm...i agree the world is full of competition n we do find ourselves caught up in ego hassels sometimes...but y shud we care bout provin a point to ppl...whts most important is self satisfaction n thts possible only if the "face in the mirror" is content wth ur accomplishments n achievements n thts all tht shud matter...:)
Impressions change wth time n people...wht dosent change ever is the satisfaction in ones heart on knowin tht uve lived a true life...true to urself ...thts whn u can look straight in the eyes of the "guy in the glass" n smile n say "im happy" wthout a moments hesitation (n this time really mean it) *smiles*
@ chandni
yup chandni...its as long as u can look straight in the eyes of the "one in the glass" wth a feelin of content n free of guilt , all's well...we shud all try to live such tht we can always meet eyes wth our "image in the mirror" or as we say "conscience"---thts all tht matters...:)
P.S: i cant comment on ur posts..it shows some error everytime i try :((...n i had soo much to say...*heehee*...i hate it whn im not allowed to speak..:(... wht do i do?.am i the only one who cant comment...pls do sumthin bout it///...its kinda strange to post comments to ur posts on here instead of on ur blog..heehee
btw congrats on gettin ur new laptop (though this is kinda late)...n heyy i totally agreee wth u bout the "shadi being sweet n simple" thing...heehee...i wud be most happy to get married in jeans n a casual top thrown on ...lol..tht way i wud hav time to concentrate on more important things ...er..eh..uh...like the guy....lol!!! *winks*.
Now when i see in my past...
I ve cheated "myself", many a times...
be it for gettign a job, or impress some fool. Said something which was not 100% true. for what? Now even I am not convinced if they were for valid reasons... but i did.
and i guess in general, as vicky pointed out, we all do small such things..(i am not trying to defend myself...just seeing things in a broader perspective).
If you behave nicely, I may not choose to deprive you of the insights of my writing and comments, however one more indiscretion- I will have to stop your education. I would regret doing it, but I would be helpless.
@ the only genius
dint really get the last part...or was tht juss another "pri's anger" provokin statement
n whn did i not behave nicely to u??
Great post as usual Pri...
I guess we all wear masks to protect ourselves from being hurt and to be accepted by the society...I wrote a similar post a while back...Masquerade...have a read if u have time :)
yes...what matters in the end is if you havent fooled the guy in the mirror..when all masks are taken off..when what lies beneath is what makes YOU happy...
Keshi.
@ keshi
hmm but as much as want to be accepted by society , wudent we hav the pride if they accepted us 'sans' the mask...:).Tht wus be real acceptance rite? n i dont think i wud giv a damn bout ppl who'll accept me only if i change or act different frm wht i am...whtsay pal?
As for avoidin hurt, i do agree we wear a mask sometimes, probably juss to fake the hurt...well tht i dunno if wrong or right...:) cos thts wht i partly mean whn i said "rnt we foolin ourselves in the process?"...
havent read ur post on it..will do so rite away...probably wud be able to explain ur take on it at length :)..
u tk care...
Hey pri,
Lovely thots..and well fact is most of us are leading masked lives...we always want and aim to be something we'r not!
Which is why the world is such a chaos, the poor want to be richer, the sad want to be happier, the ugly want to be beautiful...etc etc
Guess the would be an ideal world if everyone craeted harmony with themselves in their current state!
@Ekta,
You mean to say whe should accept our fate wihout trying. So, the poor should make no effort to become rich? Evidently you are not poor!!!!
How about uneducated? Should they try to get educated in your utopian world or remain in their state of ignorance lest they disturb the natural balance?
Genius:-No thats not what the comment meant-Of course one always strives to achieve a better life-however not at the cost of losing onself!
Its got nothing to do with being rich or poor--there are enough poor people who are happy with their current state and enough rich who are still unhappy with what they have!
Point is to what extent do we go without losing ourselves and our identities?...is there really a line?
@ born in the woods...
hmm..u do look cheated many a times pal, n i guess everytime by urself...well lookin at it in a broader perspective..hmm...rnt we juss tryin to convince ourselves a well lil bit here tht we werent wrong in doin so...but its ok buddy..we all do tht sometimes :)
Juss make sure the guy in the glass stays ur friend forever n rest assured he will tell u if u r goin the wrong way :)
p.s:..sorry for replyin late...dunno how..juss missed out on it...guess lack of sleep is finally havin its effects...lol!! *insomnic look*
@ rohit v/s ekta
guess ull hav sorted it out :)...n heyy genius , i told u thr wud be a well justified answer to tht...as for me , i agree wth ekta whn she says thr shud be a limit n it shudent be stretched at the cost of losin ur identity n conscience ...n its only u who knows whr to draw the line...juss try listenin to the voice (wth the halo ) in ur mind rather than the othr one (wth the horns!)...lol!!
@ Pri
me replying with halo around my head...lol
@Ekta,
You said there are enough poor people who are unhappy and rich people who are happy''...while the latter might as well be true, there can be no poor person who can be happy because poverty unlike what Bollywood teaches is the biggest curse in the world. Do you think you can be really happy when you dont have enough to eat? You might claim you are happy because you have never know anything better..
To drive home the point, would any of thee allegedly unhappy rich people give up being rich because they are unhappy with it and accept a life of ummm pious poverty?

Pri ur right...thats what im saying too...we should be accepted for who we really r...and ppl cant deal with my real self, then they can p#ss off lol!
Keshi.
reminds me of my mom's fav. song! I yearn to be so - dont wanna grow up! Its from an old movie - do kaliyaan:
"bacche mann ke sacche, saari jug ki aankh ke taare,
yeh woh nanhe phool hai jo bhawaawn ko lagte pyare"
Seen the movie Phone Booth? Moral policing for truth doesn't seem SOO bad ;) *devilish grin*
