Little things remind me now of who we used to be
A quiet walk, an Autumn road, bare branches on a tree
That spread wild across the sky, searching foolishly
For a lover, friend, partner, who somehow lost the way
For those perfect for each other, yet who could not stay
Little things like these make me miss you every day
The tree stands proud and tall, the season’s yet to change
It refuses to share its misery, I think of that as strange
How it hasn’t crumbled still for a love so out of range
It makes me think of you and me and a little more of you
How we gave up a bit too soon, a regret I’d come to rue
Wondering if you think of ‘us’, as often as I do
Little things like these make me miss you even today
Long since we burned bridges, a heavy price to pay
For constantly changing seasons and words we did not say
Maybe the tree in summer was once laden with flowers
Maybe it thrives on memories too, like we now do on ours
For love, at times, can be both, our weakness and our power
The tree may be in bloom again in summer and in spring
Decked with fragile blossoms and all the joy they bring
Vibrant hope to butterflies fluttering gossamer wings
Little things remind me now of who we used to be
They offer strength to stand alone, show me possibility
And now I think of me and you, but a little more of me

This journey of self-exploration is worth it...this finding of me
Well expressed
Lovely metaphors usage the poem. I loved the line - love can be a weakness and a power...-so true.
The last line - now I think a little more of me- shows the acceptance to move on.
Overall a brilliant poem.
Very nicely penned. Thank you for writing this one.
Like you, I too value little things a lot Priyanka and hence could relate to the poem all the more, loved the last two lines the most.
Yes it is little things that reminds of everlasting thing in memory, beautifully penned.
A lovely poem from you! I loved the imagery this poem conveys. Very well written.
'It makes me think of you and me and a little more of you'..WOW

Nice take on the theme. Thinking a little more of me at times is important.
Thank you, Pooja. Little things can sometimes make us introspect on the complexities of life and relationships. I have realized it is often the perfect way for closure. :)
Thank you, Gowri, for interpreting perfectly the intent behind the piece and conforming. :)
And thank 'you', Mayura, for reading and liking it. :)
That's wonderful, Roma. I truly believe it's the little things that eventually offer clarity to the bigger picture.
Thank you for coming over and reading me. :)
Thank you, Ramya.Little things make wonderful memories, yes. They also serve as beautiful lessons. :)
Thank you, Chinmayee. I'm happy you liked it. :)
Thank 'you', Manas. For organizing the hop and for prodding me to give in my entry amidst the overwhelming Chaturthi fervour. Ganpati Bappa did see to it that I did not neglect writing and provided me with some early morning inspiration.
I'm glad you liked my poem, and I'm glad I participated (see, its 'Little things' like these that truly matter.) 😁
Nicely penned and beautifully weaved poem. Little things and some lovely moments always form memories to cherish forever. Always find happiness in such sweet little things that can keep the joy and fun of life refreshed.
Well expressed, Pri.
"For constantly changing seasons and words we did not say"
Heavy price many relationships do pay.
But, it has made you think a lot more today.
It's all the Universe's conspiracy, what do you say?
True, Rashi. I completely agree.
Thanks for dropping by :)
And sometimes these little things provide us with big lessons too---a win-win situation, I say, to pay attention to the little things in life. :)
Ah, yess! The brighter side.
Strange are the ways of the universe.:)
A beautiful expression of finding self a journey from out to within is what i could interpret. Lovely expression and use of theme
Loved the transition from 'a little more of you' to a 'little more of me'. Maybe that's where the pitfall is isn't it... Sometimes it makes us wonder had it not been a little more but equal of you and me then how it would have been. But as they say things are meant to be are meant to be and those which are not are better that they are not. The transition once made is when things have arrived :). Loved the depth in the lines of your poem.
My favorite part was the end, I am an ardent supporter of self-preservation. Also, I enjoyed how you wove the tree and the seasons into the story. Beautiful
Regret in life is one virtue we wish to not have but all have their own set of it. Leading a life with new season gives the poetry a dimension of hope and that is enriching conclusion.
Somewhere, it pulled my heartstrings....an experience I could relate to.
I loved the way you compared strength to tree and lifecycle and the poem says at its final point to think about yourself is a step to knowing ourselves better.
Beautifully penned! Everything revolves around these little things that pave way to bigger things in life

Heartwarming and endearing poem which makes us come closer to our own self. The transition from 'U' to 'Me' sums it all.
Thank you, Deepika. Your interpretation is perfectly right. :)
Thank you, Ira. I'm glad you liked it. :)
Thanks, Namratha. Self-preservation is best gift one can give oneself. Although, it may seem a little selfish at times, we need to realise that it is more of a duty...a responsibility towards the self. :)
I'm glad you liked my work. Do visit again.
Thank you. I'm glad you flund it hopeful. I was hoping the lines would deliver that effect.:)
Thanks, Janaki. I'm glad you liked it. :)
And I loved the way you interpreted it exactly the way I wished you to. Thank you. :)
Thank you,Leela. I'm glad you think so too. It's the little things that matter most, no? :)
Thank you, Zenobia. I'm so glad you liked it. :)
And now I think of me and you, but a little more of me..so beautiful penned your journey and acceptance of you as you. Life teaches you so many things done in real hard way. Loved it.
Thank you, Swati. Life is indeed the biggest teacher. :)
Beautifully penned. When there is love, memories comes along, good or bad whichever, what matters we shouldn't forget that ME that lies within us and you have well shown the power of acceptance when you said, "now I think of me and you, but a little more of me". Loved it!
Subtle yet powerful poem, Priyanka.
I loved how you moved from little more of you to little more of me. Change is unavoidable yet takes time to sink in.
Thank you, Archana. I'm glad you liked it. Indeed, love for the self should and must come above romantic love. It is the only way of self-preservation sometimes. :)
Absolutely, Pragnya. Realisation often hits us in retrospect. But I guess it is better late than never.
Thank you for visiting my space and liking my work. :)
The end was such a pleasant surprise! Love changes and changes many things and your beautiful verses explained those changes so well. It was a pleasure reading this!
Mayuri/Sirimiri
It is important to cherish all the relations we have but letting go and keep 'I' first needs courage. It is the right move in every sense. Beautifully expressed.
A great write about loss of love and the journey of moving on. I like the way you've used the metaphor of tree to describe the pain and acceptance. Your words truly spoke to me and made me nostalgic and your last lines give me hope. The final stage of finding one's true self! Hope I'll reach there too :)
Beautiful piece of writing Priyanka.Loved the lines
"Little things remind me now of who we used to be
They offer strength to stand alone, show me possibility
And now I think of me and you, but a little more of me"
So beautifully expressed.
Thank you, Mayuri. I'm humbled by your words. :)
Thanks, Neha. You are absolutely spot on about self-worth. One cannot afford to lose oneself in the process of loving someone else.
Trust me, if you have realized you want to be there, then very soon you will be.
The realization is half the task done! :)
Thanks for reading and liking my work.
Thank you, Abha. I'm glad you liked it. :)
little things little joys little griefs …. That’s what shape our being …giving us enormous power to endure any difficulty that comes our way or relish any joy that is showered on us… a theme beautifully explained

Thanks, Shalini. Indeed, our circumstances shape us. They bring along a fair share of hurt too. But it is entirely on us whether we die a caterpillar or emerge from the chrysalis as a beautiful butterfly. :)
